‘The Wall Street Journal’ says that the meeting of PM Modi and President Putin took place at a time when America was banning Russian oil companies. Because of this, India is buying crude oil at low prices. The India-Russia energy partnership, which has been considered the mainstay of bilateral relations from 2022, is currently under pressure. Indian refiners are being forced to rethink their crude oil procurement strategy after the US took action against traders linked to Rosneft and Lukoil.
American media said that despite this pressure, both the leaders indicated to continue buying and selling of crude oil.

The New York Times emphasized the personal rapport between the two leaders and said that PM Modi praised his deep and unbreakable relationship with Putin and compared India-Russia relations to the “North Star”.
The Times said the summit reflected India’s assertion of “strategic autonomy”, even as India’s relations with Washington have deteriorated due to tariffs and Western sanctions, which have sharply reduced India’s crude oil imports from Russia.
