Arpora village located in the North district of Goa was shaken on the night of Saturday (6-7 December 2025). A sudden fire broke out in a popular nightclub here, due to which 25 people died. This club was opened only last year and has become quite popular among tourists. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the incident.
PM Modi wrote on Instagram, “The fire accident in Arpora, Goa is very sad. My condolences to all those who have lost their loved ones. May God bless the injured as soon as possible. I have spoken to Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant about the situation. The state government is providing all possible assistance to the affected people. On the Goa Club incident, PM Modi announced that an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh each will be given from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. Rs 50,000 will be given to the injured.

The fire spread due to cylinder explosion in the kitchen. Cooking work was going on in the kitchen area of the club at around 12 o’clock in the night. Meanwhile, there was a massive explosion in the gas cylinder and within no time the fire spread throughout the premises. The explosion was so strong that even people living nearby felt the vibration. Due to the spread of fire and smoke, the people inside did not get time to come out.

Police and fire brigade arrived immediately
As soon as the explosion occurred, people started running outside screaming and the local people immediately informed the police. Goa Police Director General Alok Kumar said that the call came in the control room at 12:04 am and police, fire unit and ambulance immediately reached the spot. The fire was brought under control after some time, but by then many people had lost their lives due to suffocation or burning.
Chief Minister gave a strict message, investigation into security standards started
As soon as information about the incident was received, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant reached the spot in the night itself. He said that initial investigation has revealed that the club did not follow fire safety rules. The Chief Minister said that if negligence in security is proved then action is certain. This incident happened during the tourist season, due to which the state government has taken it very seriously.
