Japanese fighter planes flying around Okinawa in Japan faced a serious situation. A J-15 fighter flying from China’s aircraft carrier Liaoning locked the radar on Japan’s F-15 jet. This is the same situation when an aircraft prepares to fire a missile at the target in front of it. Describing this move as dangerous, Japan has lodged a formal protest with China.

According to the Japanese Defense Ministry, this incident happened on two separate occasions. The first time in the afternoon the radar was confirmed to be locked for about three minutes, while the second time this action lasted for about 30 minutes at night. Japanese planes kept a constant vigil, but the Chinese jets did not enter their airspace. No damage or injury has been reported.

Statement by Japan’s Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi

According to ABC report, Japan’s Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi said that this is a clear violation of flight safety rules. Such steps can lead to accidents or major collisions in future. He demanded China to stop such activities with immediate effect. On the other hand, there has been no official response from China yet, whereas recently its Foreign Ministry had said that the Chinese Navy follows international laws.

Fear of increasing military tension

This entire matter has come to light at a time when tension has already increased in the relations between the two countries. A few days ago, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi had said that in case of any kind of military action on Taiwan, Japan will also play a role. China had termed his statement as a provocative comment. In this background, this incident of radar lock can further increase the military tension between the two countries.
