Benefits of Amla Seeds: Patanjali Research Institute located in Haridwar, Uttarakhand has once again achieved great success in the field of Ayurveda. Generally, after using the pulp of Amla (Indian Gooseberry), its seeds are thrown away considering it as garbage. But the scientists of Patanjali have done research on these ‘useless’ seeds and have proved that they are no less than a treasure for health. Patanjali claims that this innovation is now being recognized globally, which is a great example of the confluence of India’s Ayurvedic knowledge and modern science.
What was found in the research?
The company has said, “Patanjali’s Research and Development (R&D) team found that Amla seeds have medicinal properties hidden in them, which were not used in mainstream Ayurveda till now. Through chemical profiling, it was found that elements like quercetin, ellagic acid, flavonoids, omega-3 fatty acids and tannins are found in these seeds.
Patanjali claims, “Scientifically it has been proven that these elements are very beneficial for the body.” These have anti-aging (slowing down the aging process), anti-inflammatory (reducing inflammation) and heart-protecting properties. This research may not only be effective in high blood pressure and skin related problems, but will also help in fighting lifestyle diseases like diabetes and low immunity.
Procurement of seeds started in these states
Patanjali said, “The biggest social impact of this discovery is that it has made the ‘Waste to Wealth’ model true. Direct benefit to farmers. The seeds which were thrown away till now have now become a source of income for farmers. Patanjali has started purchasing these seeds from farmers of Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, due to which they are earning additional income. This is not only strengthening the local economy but also reducing the dependence on import of herbal products.
The company said, “This effort of Patanjali has been appreciated at the national and international level. Prestigious institutions like Ministry of AYUSH and Asian Traditional Medicine Board have recognized this research. These findings of Patanjali have also been mentioned in research papers of countries like Europe, Malaysia and Thailand.
On the basis of this research, Patanjali has developed products like Amla Seed Oil Capsule, Skincare Formulation and Immunity Booster, the demand for which is now increasing in foreign countries also. This initiative proves that when ancient knowledge meets modern science, the results are beneficial for humanity.
