The 2026 T20 World Cup is not far away, which India and Sri Lanka are going to host together. A total of 20 teams will participate in this tournament which will run from 7 February to 8 March and the excitement of cricket will be at its peak across the world. Meanwhile, ICC has suffered a big blow because according to a media report, JioStar has refused to broadcast the 2026 T20 World Cup.
The cricket world has been shocked by this. One of the biggest questions that has come to light is why did JioStar do this and will the people of India not be able to watch the World Cup matches live on TV and mobile? Understand here what is this whole matter.
Why did Jiostar refuse to broadcast?
According to a report in The Economic Times, JioStar has informed the ICC that it will not be able to continue the media agreement till 2027. It is being told that the reason for this big decision of JioStar is financial loss. One thing worth noting is that ICC has started the process of selling media rights for the 2026-2029 season. ICC is expected to get 2.4 billion dollars for media rights. JioStar’s decision has shocked the ICC. Jiostar had signed a deal worth $3 billion with ICC for 2023-2027.
Will T20 World Cup not come live in India?
According to media reports, after Jiostar’s withdrawal, ICC has invited many platforms to bid for media rights. In these, contacts have also been made with Sony Pictures Network India, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. It is being told that due to the deal amount being very high, none of these platforms have shown interest in the deal.
Since ICC has not yet found a new broadcasting partner, the organization and telecast of T20 World Cup 2026 is in danger. Looking at the current situation, the possibility cannot be ruled out that the live telecast of the World Cup in India is currently in danger.
