Union Public Service Commission i.e. UPSC has released the notification of National Defense Academy and Naval Academy Examination (NDA & NA) I, 2026. This announcement was awaited by those youth across the country who dream of serving the country by becoming officers in the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.

This time UPSC has announced a total of 394 vacancies, on which both male and female candidates will be selected. In these, selection will be made in the Army, Navy and Air Force wings for the 157th course of NDA, while the youth will also get a chance for the 119th Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC). This course will start from January 1, 2027.

To apply for this examination, candidates will have to fulfill some essential educational qualifications. To apply for the Army branch of NDA, candidates must have passed 12th class from a recognized board. To apply for the Navy and Air Force wings of NDA, it is mandatory to be a science student. That means the candidate should have Physics, Chemistry and Maths (PCM) subjects in 12th.

Apart from this, the same condition also applies for the 10+2 Cadet Scheme of the Indian Naval Academy. The special thing is that students studying in 12th can also apply for this examination. However, they will have to provide proof that they have passed class 12th before December 10, 2026. If he is unable to provide such proof, his selection will be considered cancelled.

Talking about vacancies, this time a total of 208 posts have been released for the army wing in NDA, out of which 198 posts are reserved for men and 10 posts are reserved for women. There are 42 vacancies for Naval Wing, out of which 37 male and 5 female candidates will be selected. There are 92 posts available in the Flying Branch of the Air Force, in which 90 male and 2 female candidates will be selected. Apart from this, 18 posts have been kept in Ground Duty Technical and 10 posts in Non-Technical of Air Force. A total of 24 posts have been earmarked for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme of the Naval Academy, in which 21 male and 3 female candidates will be included. Overall, 394 candidates, including 370 male and 24 female, will get a great opportunity through this examination.

Application Fee So much

Talking about the application fee for NDA exam, male candidates of general and OBC category will have to pay a fee of Rs 100. Whereas SC, ST, all women candidates and dependent candidates of JCO/NCO/OR do not have to pay any fee. That means candidates of these categories can fill the form absolutely free of cost. This arrangement has been made with the aim of providing financial relief to the youth.

How much salary will I get?

Talking about salary and facilities, NDA cadets are given Rs 56,100 every month during their training. The same amount of salary is available even after appointment to the post of Lieutenant, Flying Officer or Sub-Lieutenant. Along with this, all the officers are also given Military Service Pay i.e. MSP of Rs 15,500 per month. Apart from this, army officers get dearness allowance, uniform allowance, transport allowance, field allowance and many other facilities. This is the reason why becoming an officer in the army through NDA is considered a matter of honor and pride for the youth.
