what is yubari king melon
This melon is a premium variety of cantaloupe. It is grown only in the Yubari area of Hokkaido island of Japan. It is not just a fruit but a luxury product. It is known for its perfectly round shape, smooth mesh skin, shiny pulp and excellent sweetness.
What is its specialty?
Its high price is its biggest feature. This melon has a strict geographical identity which means it can only be grown in the Yubari region. The soil there is heavy with volcanic minerals and the climate there creates incomparable sweetness and fragrance with huge differences in day and night temperatures.
Not farming but a science experiment
This melon is grown under carefully controlled conditions inside a greenhouse. Farmers keep a precise eye on temperature, humidity, sunlight and even water quality. In many cases, only one melon is grown on each plant so that all the nutrients come from a single melon.
Demand increased due to low production
