US President Donald Trump’s efforts to stop the war between Russia and Ukraine may face a major setback. For the first time in the four (04) year long war, Ukraine has targeted a Russian submarine. The special thing is that Ukraine attacked this submarine parked at a port in the Black Sea with an underwater drone.
Ukraine’s intelligence agency, SBU (Security Bureau) has carried out this attack and has also released a video after the attack. According to SBU, this submarine of Varsha Vyanka (Kilo) class parked at Novorossiysk port of Russia in the Black Sea has been targeted. This attack submarine, named Project 636.3, was equipped with four caliber missiles.
The submarine was targeted during the war
In the SBU video, it can be seen that along with a submarine, at least half a dozen warships and boats are standing at Novorossiysk port. Meanwhile, there is a massive explosion in the submarine. Ukraine claims that the submarine and its missiles have been disabled by the attack. The special thing is that after almost 50 years, a submarine has been targeted during a war. Last time, during the India-Pakistan war of 1971, a submarine named INS Ghazi was destroyed in the Bay of Bengal near Visakhapatnam port (Andhra Pradesh). This Pakistani submarine had come with the intention of targeting the Indian warships stationed in Visakhapatnam, but during that time there was a massive explosion in this submarine and PNS Ghazi got grounded in the Bay of Bengal. The wreckage of PNS Ghazi is still lying in the sea near Visakhapatnam.
Russian Defense Ministry said wrong
After Ukraine’s claim, Russia’s Defense Ministry termed the reports of the submarine being inoperative as completely false. Quoting Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, the Defense Ministry said that no submarine or ship was damaged in Ukraine’s underwater drone attack. Nor were there any Russian naval casualties in the attack. Russia claims that the submarine that was attacked is fully operational. In the initial weeks of the war, Ukraine had destroyed the Russian Moskva ship in the Black Sea through a missile attack. Russian sailors stationed on the ship also lost their lives in this attack.
Attack on Russian submarine in Black Sea may trigger war
It is noteworthy that Ukraine has targeted the Russian submarine at a time when two-day peace talks were organized in Berlin. Representatives of Ukraine, America and European Union participated in this meeting. After the meeting, Trump spoke on the phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and discussed stopping the war. The attack on a Russian submarine in the Black Sea could once again ignite the fire of war and there is a possibility of the war being prolonged. The war between Russia and Ukraine started on 24 February 2022. In such a situation, within two months, the war will complete four years.
