The Foreign Ministry of Bangladesh has summoned Indian High Commissioner Prannoy Verma today (23 December 2025) and expressed Dhaka’s serious concern over the demonstrations outside diplomatic missions in India. The Daily Star quoted ministry sources as saying that Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam met the ambassador at around 9:30 am.
According to the Foreign Ministry of Bangladesh, objection has been raised to the incidents of vandalism at the Bangladesh Visa Center in Siliguri, apart from the incidents that took place outside the premises of the Bangladesh High Commission and official residence in New Delhi on Saturday. Bangladesh also expressed deep concern over the demonstrations outside several of its diplomatic missions in India.
Appeal to ensure security of diplomatic missions
Referring to violence and threats against diplomatic establishments, Dhaka said such actions jeopardize the security of diplomatic personnel and undermine mutual respect. Bangladesh has appealed to India to thoroughly investigate these incidents and ensure the security of Bangladesh’s diplomatic missions and related facilities.
Visa services suspended in embassies located in Delhi-Agartala
Bangladesh said it expects India to take immediate and appropriate steps to protect the dignity and safety of diplomatic personnel in accordance with international and diplomatic obligations. In view of security concerns, the embassies in New Delhi and Agartala have suspended all consular and visa services. A visa application center operated by a third party appointed by the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata has been closed following the protests. A notice put up on Monday at the Bangladesh High Commission premises in New Delhi said that due to the current circumstances, all consular and visa services have been temporarily suspended until further notice.
