Shashi Tharoor shared the poem written on Nalanda

Shashi Tharoor shared the poem written on Nalanda in a post on social media platform X on Wednesday (December 24, 2025). He wrote, ‘Nalanda! We have a wonderful history, it was a wonderful bygone era, people from all over the world had to come and go here then. Poets, poets and great scholars of philosophy used to come, Buddhist followers also used to come and teach peace here.

He further wrote, ‘Maybe till some eight centuries, the river of knowledge used to flow, students from all over the world came and stayed here. We have gone through that phase again, we have to bring it back here. We can get up after falling, we have to show everyone. History never dies by burning books. Those who would die are common Indians! Sa, special does not die.

Why did Tharoor get surrounded by praising Nalanda University?

However, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor got embroiled in controversy after praising Nalanda University during his visit to Bihar. In fact, the Congress leader said during his visit to Bihar that his old beliefs about Bihar have now completely changed. Furthermore, he appreciated the modern infrastructure and historical heritage in Bihar. After this statement, political speculations and talk of praising the NDA government started. After which Tharoor also gave clarification regarding this.

He said that I neither mentioned BJP nor took the name of any CM or leader. I praised Nalanda University and the two museums I visited. Why create political controversies over such common matters which have nothing to do with politics?
