Tharoor said that it is the responsibility of the Yunus government and the police to stop violence in Bangladesh. If the government and the police together are not able to do anything, then the army should be involved, but the violence should stop at all costs.
Tharoor angry over the murder of Hindu youth
On December 24, 2025, Shashi Tharoor gave a statement to news agency ANI and said, ‘This is a very serious problem. We want Bangladesh to remain stable and peaceful and the minorities there to feel safe. The lynching of a person in police custody was indeed very wrong and unfair. There was no evidence of that person committing any derogatory act. The police handed him over to the mob, which was very horrifying.
He said that the violence on the streets in Bangladesh, protests and demonstrations outside Indian embassies have worsened the situation. This has made it difficult to create an environment of peace and stability before the elections to be held in February.
India is not involved in the death of student leader
Shashi Tharoor said, ‘Completely rejected the talk of blaming India for the death of a student leader. Accusing India of being involved in the death of the student leader is absolutely absurd. India has no interest in creating instability in Bangladesh. Such things are creating an atmosphere of hostility against minorities, which is a matter of concern for the entire country.
Everyone has the right to demonstrate peacefully
Tharoor said that in India too, some groups have protested against the incidents on the border. This is their right in a democracy, but it should be peaceful. Such demonstrations have taken place in India, but there was no violence, no lynching. If anyone tries to commit violence, the police will stop him.
Demand for strictness from Bangladesh government
Shashi Tharoor has demanded strict action from the Bangladesh government. He said, ‘Just expressing regret or condemning the Bangladesh government will not work, they will have to stop the violence.’ Tharoor warned that it would be difficult to conduct elections in the current environment. ‘How will elections be held in at least two months, when there is chaos on the streets, an atmosphere of fear and voters themselves do not feel safe?’
