A horrific train accident took place on Saturday (27 December) on Jasidih-Jhajha railway section under Asansol railway division of Eastern Railway. This accident took place near Badua River Bridge No. 676 near Telwa Bazar Hot located in Simultala of Jamui district. Several coaches of a goods train laden with cement derailed and fell into the river, causing chaos in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, this incident happened around 11:30 pm. As soon as the goods train coming from the up line reached near the bridge, the track suddenly disintegrated. In the accident, three coaches fell directly into the Badua river, while two coaches were left hanging on the bridge. Apart from this, more than half a dozen coaches derailed and ran over each other. The collision was so strong that the off-line track got uprooted and fell into the down line.
Up and down lines completely disrupted
After this accident, rail operations on both the up and down lines on the Jasidih-Jhajha railway section have come to a complete halt. Many passenger and goods trains have been stopped en route. The railway administration is trying to change the routes of trains and provide alternative arrangements to the passengers, but the traffic is badly affected.
Teams engaged in relief and rescue
As soon as information about the accident was received, RPF, Railway Police and technical team reached the spot. With the help of heavy cranes, the work of removing tracks and coaches is being done on a war footing. Railway officials say that the priority is to clear the tracks as soon as possible and restore operations.
No casualties, investigation ordered
There is no news of any casualty in this accident, which is a matter of relief. Railways has ordered an investigation into the causes of the accident. Initially, there is a possibility of technical fault of the track or overloading. The situation will become clear only after the investigation report.
