India vs New Zealand ODI series is going to start from 11th January. Before that, Team India has suffered a big blow because ODI team vice-captain Shreyas Iyer will have to wait longer to return. He has not yet received approval to play from BCCI’s Center of Excellence.
There were speculations that Shreyas Iyer would be completely fit by December 30, but in the investigation he was not found completely fit. Now he will have to spend at least a week in the Center of Excellence. Iyer is able to bat without any problem, but due to excessive weight loss, his strength level has gone down a lot. Special attention will be given to his fitness in the next one week.
Shreyas Iyer was injured while taking a catch in the Sydney ODI match against Australia. It is being told that his weight has decreased by about 6 kg. He has gained some weight, but his strength has decreased due to decline in muscle mass.
Quoting Times of India, a BCCI source said that the medical team will not be negligent regarding Shreyas Iyer, because Iyer is a very important player of the ODI team. The source said that his being completely fit is the biggest priority at the moment. Discussions are possible between the management and selectors before the Indian squad is announced for the ODI series against New Zealand.
It was being told that Shreyas Iyer can play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy matches to be held on January 3 and January 6, but after the new report on fitness has come out, it is now looking very difficult for him to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
