New York State Attorney General Letitia James administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mamdani. Mamdani has described Letitia James as his ‘political inspiration’. The swearing-in ceremony took place on the platform of the old City Hall subway station located beneath Manhattan’s City Hall Park. The station is known for its tiled vaulted ceilings, stained glass skylights and brass chandeliers. The station, which closed in 1945, is closed to the public and only occasionally offers guided tours.
