AIIMS changed treatment rules, giving priority to online appointments and referral patients.

AIIMS, the country’s largest government medical institute, has made its priorities regarding treatment clear in the beginning of the new year. The institute says that amid limited resources, serious and complex patients will be able to get better treatment only when the pressure of common diseases is reduced. In this regard, the AIIMS administration has appealed for cooperation from the patients and their families.

Super specialty hospital, not general clinic

AIIMS Director Dr. M Srinivas has said that this institute has not been created for the treatment of minor everyday diseases. The role of AIIMS is in those cases where the complexity of treatment is high or facilities are not available in other hospitals. In cases like cough, cold or mild fever, local hospitals are a better option.

Coming unnecessarily increases the problem.

According to the director, a large number of such patients reach AIIMS, who can get treatment even in normal hospitals. This creates difficulty in providing timely care to serious patients. If people get treatment at the right level, AIIMS services can be more effective.

Emphasis on online appointment

The online appointment system for treatment in AIIMS is being made more stringent. The administration has made it clear that priority will be given to patients who come with prior appointment. If you arrive without an appointment, you may have to wait a long time.

Trying to maintain convenience amidst huge crowd

AIIMS administration says that continuous improvements are being made keeping in mind the convenience of the patients. Arrangements for electric vehicles have been made to ease the movement of patients at night. The goal is that the disorder does not increase with treatment.

Every patient is not equal, priority is necessary

Dr. Srinivas said that the condition of every patient coming to AIIMS is different. Therefore, treatment is also given on priority basis. Every year about 50 lakh patients come to OPD for treatment. This number is more than the population of many small countries. In such a situation, one hospital cannot bear the burden of the entire country.

Referral patients will get preference

The AIIMS administration says that the cases which are referred by other hospitals due to lack of resources or expertise, are the real responsibility of AIIMS. To maintain focus on such patients, it is necessary to reduce the crowd.

Hospital system will be more digital

AIIMS has taken another big step to strengthen the treatment system. Now information related to on-call duty will be available on an online dashboard. With this, it will be immediately known which doctor or staff is present on duty at which time.

Complete information about duty will be available on one click, there will be no delay in emergency

Under the new system, all departments will upload their on-call roster on AIIMS intranet. Control room and administration will not need to search for information at different places. Complete data will be available on a single platform. With the real-time updated roster, the right medical team can be called immediately in case of emergency. This will reduce the delay in treatment and patients will be able to get timely help. According to the AIIMS administration, from April 1, the online on-call dashboard will be the official medium. The manual process will almost be eliminated. This will make the functioning of the hospital more organized and patients will directly benefit from it.
