Why does alcohol affect women more? Experts told the real reason

The amount of water in the body of women is less than that of men and there is more fat in the body. Alcohol dissolves in water. Therefore, when there is less water in the body, alcohol gets mixed into the blood quickly and the effect becomes stronger. If a woman and a man drink the same amount of alcohol, the woman’s body quickly reaches a state of intoxication because there is not enough water in her body to dissolve the alcohol.

There is an enzyme in our body, Alcohol Dehydrogenase (ADH), which helps in breaking down and digesting alcohol. This enzyme is found in less quantity in women. This means that the alcohol breaks down slowly and has a longer lasting effect.
