Chinese EV giant BYD has overtaken Elon Musk’s Tesla in terms of sales. According to the data of calendar year 2025, global sales of BYD’s battery operated cars increased by about 28 percent to more than 22.5 lakh units.
Whereas Tesla sold only 16.4 lakh EVs in 2025, which is about 9 percent less than in 2024. This is the second consecutive year that Tesla’s sales have declined. According to reports, the main reason for this is customer resentment over Elon Musk’s politics and tough competition from low-cost, high-feature EV companies like BYD in global markets including China.
Due to affordable pricing, advanced technology and better features, BYD is rapidly strengthening its hold in emerging markets.
