The villages of Silgaon Khat under Vikasnagar area of Uttarakhand have taken a big decision to implement strict rules regarding marriages and social events. In order to stop the increasing expenditure, ostentation and deviation from traditions in the society, Khata residents have unanimously decided the rules. All these rules will be effective from June 2026 and heavy financial penalties will be imposed on their violation.
In the meeting held on Sunday under the chairmanship of Sadar Sayana Tulsi Ram Sharma, the people of Silgaon Khat villages took many important decisions related to social welfare. It was decided in the meeting that no person from the letter would now organize marriages in wedding points located in Vikasnagar or other places. If any person violates this rule, a fine of Rs 1 lakh will be imposed on him.
Fine will also be collected from the village
Along with this, it was also decided that if a family organizes a party in their village after getting married at a wedding point, then only members of that family will attend it. No person from the village will participate in that event. In case of breaking the rules, a fine of Rs 1 lakh will be collected from the family concerned and if people of the village are involved in it, a fine of Rs 50 thousand will be collected from the village.
Women’s jewelery also limited
Women’s jewelery has also been limited during weddings, Bissu fair and mass festivals of Khat. Women will be able to wear only earrings, nose ring, mangalsutra, anklets and rings. While banning the dowry system, it was decided that only five items would be given in dowry – Bantha, Parat, bowl and box.
DJ completely banned
DJ will be completely banned in wedding ceremonies. Only mikes and traditional Pahari bands will be allowed. There will be a complete ban on fast food like momo, chowmein, tikki, golgappa, fruits in the marriage. Only Rasgulla or Jalebi will be served after the meal. There will also be a complete ban on beer, while only cucumber, radish, carrot, chicken and gram will be allowed to be tasted with liquor.
Women will not be allowed to participate in the Rini feast. The women attending the banquet will be given only half a kilo of sweets after the meal. There has also been a ban on giving any kind of money in the form of vaccine.
Apart from this, women will also be prohibited from visiting any relative’s house after any tragic incident. The people of Khata unanimously agreed to all these rules. Local people say that these decisions are necessary to protect simplicity, equality and traditions in the society.
