Kapil Dev Statement On The Exclusion Of Bangladeshi Players From The PGTI Tour: Great cricketer and PGTI President Kapil Dev said on Monday, January 5, 2026, that no decision has been taken yet regarding the participation of Bangladeshi players in the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI). Bangladesh Cricket Board has decided not to send its team for the T20 World Cup to be held in India next month in February due to security reasons and after the advice of its government. Earlier, IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had decided to remove Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the team on the instructions of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

When asked about the possibility of excluding Bangladeshi players from the PGTI Tour, Kapil Dev said, ‘We will talk about it. No decision has been taken yet. Many prominent golfers from Bangladesh, including Jamal Hossain, Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman and Mohammad Akbar Hossain, play on the PGTI Tour. At the same time, Kapil Dev refused to comment on the latest decision of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) which wrote a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC). The 1983 World Cup-winning captain was speaking to the media on the sidelines of the inauguration of PGTI’s franchise-based golf league ’72 The League’.
Statement also given on development of golf in India
Kapil Dev said that India needs a team-based structure for the development of golf. He also gave the example of changes in Indian cricket after the Indian Premier League. He said, ‘I used to play cricket which is a team game whereas golf is an individual game but India needs a team format in golf also.’ He further said, ‘The change that took place in Indian cricket after the arrival of the Indian Premier League, we want to do the same in golf through this league.’
