- Irrfan Khan was born in Jaipur, Rajasthan, in a Muslim family with roots in a zamindari family in Tonk. Despite expectations of joining the family business, he chose to pursue his passion for acting, a decision that gave Indian cinema one of its finest actors.
- Before making acting his career, Irfan was very fond of cricket. He was selected to participate in the CK Nayudu Tournament, a prestigious platform for players under the age of 23 who want to pursue a career in first-class cricket. However, due to financial constraints he could not participate in the tournament.
- While pursuing his Masters, Irrfan received a scholarship to study at the National Institute of Drama (NSD) in New Delhi in 1984. From here he took his graduation degree in acting in 1987.
