Just days after being dropped from IPL 2026, Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman has moved to Pakistan Super League (PSL). After his release from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), his decision seems to be more related to politics and circumstances than cricket. Now the same bowler, who was a part of IPL a few weeks ago for a huge amount of Rs 9.20 crore, will be seen playing in PSL for a much lesser amount.
Out of IPL, picture suddenly changed
Mustafizur Rahman was bought by KKR for Rs 9.20 crore in the IPL 2026 mini auction after the competition with Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals. After this, due to the news of violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, protests against them started in India. Considering the situation, BCCI directed to drop him from the team. Due to which Shahrukh Khan’s team KKR had dropped Mustafizur Rahman from its squad.
Return to PSL after eight years
After being out of IPL, Mustafizur joined Pakistan Super League. His inclusion was confirmed on the official social media account of PSL. The special thing is that Mustafizur is going to play again in PSL after eight years. He has already been seen in the jersey of Lahore Qalandars. The PSL draft is scheduled to take place on January 21 and the league will begin on March 23, just three days before the IPL begins.

The biggest difference between IPL and PSL is earning. While Mustafizur was to get Rs 9.20 crore in IPL, he is expected to get much less amount in PSL. The most expensive player in PSL history has been David Warner, who was bought for around Rs 2.70 crore (Indian currency). In such a situation, it is clear that Mustafizur is now forced to play at “penny prices”.
The matter reached international and political level
After Mustafizur’s exit from IPL, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) also adopted a strict stance. BCB wrote a letter to ICC demanding that all the matches of Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup should be held in Sri Lanka instead of being held in India. The board refused to come to India citing security reasons. Not only this, the interim government of Bangladesh has also refused to telecast live IPL matches.
