The situation remains very tense after the change of power in Venezuela. The country’s Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello said late on Wednesday night that about 100 people were killed in the US military action in which President Nicolas Maduro was removed from power. The number of deaths came out for the first time
Cabello said that a total of 100 people were killed in the US action on Saturday. However, the Venezuelan army has so far released the list of names of only 23 of its killed soldiers. Government officials say that many people deployed to protect Maduro were killed ‘as part of a conspiracy’.
Cuban soldiers and intelligence officers were also killed
Cuba has also confirmed that some of its military and intelligence personnel deployed in Venezuela have been killed in this attack. Due to this, the impact of this action was not limited to Venezuela only.
Maduro and his wife injured
According to Interior Minister Cabello, Maduro’s wife Cilia Flores suffered a head injury during the attack, while Maduro suffered a leg injury. Both were detained by US Special Forces.
Mourning week announced for army
Cabello described the slain soldiers as “brave” in her weekly program on state TV. He said that on Tuesday the government has announced a week of mourning for the army soldiers killed in this attack.
