New PSL teams sold at throwaway prices! Deal made for less than the salary of 5 IPL players

A big and shocking news related to Pakistan Super League (PSL) has come to light. PSL is going to become even bigger from the year 2026, because two new teams have entered the league. Now a total of 8 teams will be seen playing in PSL. These two new franchises were added in the auction held on January 8, 2026, but their price has surprised cricket fans.

Two new teams added to PSL

Hyderabad team was bought by FKS Group in the auction, whose price was 1.75 billion Pakistani rupees. The Sialkot team went to OZ Group, which spent 1.85 billion Pakistani rupees for it. That means the total price including both the teams was around 3.6 billion Pakistani rupees. This amount sounds huge, but when it is compared with IPL, the picture looks completely different.

Why is there discussion in comparison with IPL?

Actually, if Pakistani rupees are converted into Indian rupees, the total value of these two PSL teams comes to around Rs 115 crores. This is where the real debate begins. The one season salary of some star players in IPL is so high that the earnings of only 5 players becomes equal to the price of these two new PSL teams.

Salary of 5 IPL players surprised

In IPL, Lucknow Super Giants gives around Rs 27 crore to Rishabh Pant for one season. Shreyas Iyer’s salary is Rs 26.75 crore. Cameron Green has been bought by KKR for Rs 25.20 crore. Virat Kohli gets Rs 21 crore for a season, while Rohit Sharma is paid Rs 16.30 crore by Mumbai Indians. If the total salary of these five players is added, then this amount becomes more than Rs 116 crore, which is more than the price of both the new teams of PSL.

The difference between IPL and PSL is clear

It becomes clear from this comparison how big a difference there is at the economic level between IPL and PSL. While in IPL crores of rupees are spent on one player, in PSL the entire franchise can be bought for the same amount.

What does expansion mean for PSL?

The addition of two new teams in PSL is being considered a good sign for Pakistani cricket. This will lead to more matches, more players will emerge and new cities will get recognition. With cities like Hyderabad and Sialkot getting their own teams, local cricket will also get a boost. Even though PSL is lagging behind IPL financially, the expansion of the league is being considered an important step towards strengthening its future.
