Maharashtra State Election Commission announced on Friday that Thursday, January 15 will be a public holiday in the areas of 29 municipal corporations where voting is to be held for the civic elections. An officer gave this information.
This holiday will be observed in government and semi-government offices, corporations, boards, public undertakings, banks and central government offices falling in the municipal area.
The Election Commission said that all administrative preparations including the arrangement of EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines) have been completed and urged the public to actively participate in the democratic process.
In a separate order, State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare directed that adequate number of polling and counting personnel should be appointed and all concerned officers should complete the necessary training on time.

He said that strict action would be taken against the officers who remained absent from the training. Waghmare issued these instructions during the election review meetings held on January 6 and 7.
Commission Secretary Suresh Kakani, Inspector General of Police Manoj Kumar Sharma, Commissioners of all 29 Municipal Corporations, Police Commissioners and District Superintendents of Police were also present in these meetings.

Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Ulhasnagar, Kalyan-Dombivli, Bhiwandi-Nizampur, Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar, Panvel, Nashik, Malegaon, Ahilyanagar, Jalgaon, Dhule, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Solapur, Kolhapur, Ichalkaranji, Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nanded-Waghala, Voting is to be held in Parbhani, Jalna, Latur, Amravati, Akola, Nagpur and Chandrapur.
Officials have been directed to ensure smooth process of voting and counting, all employees should be made aware of the arrangements made at the polling stations and all necessary precautions should be taken to avoid any kind of inconvenience to the voters.
The Commission said that uninterrupted power supply, drinking water and toilet facilities should be ensured at polling stations.
