Another Hindu youth was murdered in Sunamganj district on Thursday (January 8, 2026) amid increasing violence against minorities in Bangladesh. The deceased has been identified as Joy Mahapatro. The victim’s family has alleged that a local man first brutally assaulted her and then forced her to consume poison.
19-year-old Joy Mahapatro was admitted to the ICU of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in a critical condition, where he died during treatment.
Continuous killings of Hindus in Bangladesh
This incident has come to light just a few days after a Hindu man was attacked and killed with sharp weapons in Narsindi district of Bangladesh. 40-year-old Moni Chakraborty was attacked on Tuesday (January 6, 2026) in Charsindhur Bazaar area of Palash upazila, in which he died.
Similarly, just hours before the murder of Moni Chakraborty, a Hindu businessman and executive editor of a newspaper was shot dead in the head by unknown assailants in Jessore district of Bangladesh. At the same time, Pratap, son of a school teacher from Keshabpur upazila, who was running an ice factory in Kopaliya market for the last two years, was called by some people outside his factory on Monday (January 5, 2026) evening. After this they took him to an alley and shot him.
The process of death of Hindus started with the murder of Dipu Chandra Das.
The series of killings of minority Hindus in Bangladesh started last month on December 18, 2025, when Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das was beaten to death by a fundamentalist Islamic mob on charges of alleged blasphemy in Mymensingh district of the country and later his body was hanged in a tree and set on fire.
Apart from this, Khokan Chandra Das, a 50-year-old Hindu businessman in Bangladesh was also brutally attacked and then burnt alive. After which he died in the hospital three days later.
