Will BCCI take a big decision due to elections? Secretary Devjit Saikia said that matches can be held without spectators.

BMC elections may have an impact on the Women’s Premier League. BMC elections are to be held on January 15 and on that day the match between Mumbai Indians and UP Warriors will be played in WPL 2026. It is reported that due to elections, spectators will not be allowed to enter the WPL matches to be held on 14 and 15 January. According to IANS, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia expressed his views on the possibility of holding WPL matches in empty grounds.

According to news agency IANS, Devjit Saikia said, “There are BMC elections in Mumbai on January 15. Therefore, we are considering that the matches will be held, but we have not yet taken any final decision on whether spectators will be allowed to enter the ground or not. The matches will continue, but the question is whether the spectators will be allowed or not, because Mumbai Police says that they will not be able to provide security on January 14 and 15.”

BMC elections are to be held on January 15 and counting of votes will take place on January 16. BCCI has not expressed much concern about the 16th, but Devjit Saikia insisted that matches can be held in empty grounds on the 14th and 15th.

In WPL 2026, all the matches are to be played in Navi Mumbai till January 17. The match between Delhi Capitals and UP Warriors will be held on January 14, a day before the BMC elections. The next day i.e. on the election day, the UP team will be seen in action, but this time it will face the home team Mumbai Indians.
