Great West Indies cricketer Sir Garfield Sobers has died at the age of 89. He was about to celebrate his 90th birthday in about two weeks. Sobers is considered one of the greatest all-rounder players in cricket history. He played international cricket for West Indies from 1954-1973.
Before the ODI format took hold in the game of cricket, Sir Garfield Sobers used to dominate the Test format. He played only one match in his ODI career, but took more than 8 thousand runs and 235 wickets in Tests.
Sir Garfield Sobers was born on 28 July 1936 in the Caribbean island of Barbados. His specialty was that he could bowl in 3 different ways. He bowled left-arm fast bowling, left-arm off-spin and also bowled left-arm leg spin.
The West Indies Cricket Board shared the information about the demise of Sir Garfield Sobers on social media and also wrote a condolence message for him.

Made debut at the age of 17
Sir Garfield Sobers made his international debut at the age of just 17. In the year 1954, he played his first international match against England, in which he scored 40 runs with the bat in both the innings and took 4 wickets in the first innings. He was able to bowl only one over in the second innings. England won that match by 9 wickets. In his Test career of 93 matches, he scored 8032 runs and took 235 wickets in bowling. He played only one match in ODI, in which he took one wicket.
