There is big news for engineering students. Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati i.e. IIT Guwahati has officially released the admit card of GATE 2026. Candidates who had applied for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering can now download their hall ticket online. For this, candidates will have to go to GOAPS portal of GATE.
With the release of the admit card, the heartbeats of lakhs of students preparing for the exam have increased. GATE 2026 exam will be conducted on 1, 2, 7 and 8 February 2026. On the day of examination, it will be mandatory for the candidates to carry a valid photo identity card along with the printed copy of the admit card to the examination centre. No candidate will be allowed entry into the examination center without admit card and identity card.
GATE 2026 exam will be held in two phases
According to the information given by IIT Guwahati, the GATE 2026 examination will be conducted in two phases. In each phase the examination will be conducted in two shifts. The first shift will be in the morning, whose timing will be from 9:30 am to 12:30 noon. The second shift will be in the afternoon, which will run from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
Candidates have been advised to reach the examination center at least an hour before the examination, so that there is no problem in the admission process. Candidates arriving late will not be allowed to appear for the examination.
New change in exam pattern
This year an important change has also been made in the GATE exam. A total of 30 questions will be included under GATE 2026. There will be both full length question papers and sectional question papers. The special thing is that the examination conducting body IIT Guwahati has added a new sectional question paper under the Engineering Sciences (XE) category.
This new question paper has been named Energy Science (XE-1). Its addition will benefit those students who are interested in energy related subjects. This will also give candidates a new option to choose the subject.
What information will be there in the admit card?
The name of the candidate, roll number, exam date, time, address of the exam center and important instructions will be given in the GATE 2026 admit card. Candidates are advised to check all the information given in the admit card carefully after downloading it. If any kind of mistake is noticed, immediately contact the concerned authorities.
What things should be kept in mind on the day of examination
On the day of examination, candidates should take only those items which are permitted to the examination centre. Apart from admit card and photo identity card, no electronic device, mobile phone or other prohibited item will be allowed to be brought. Security check will also be done at the examination centre.
How to download GATE 2026 admit card
It is very easy to download the admit card of GATE 2026. For this, candidates first go to the official website of IIT GATE gate2026.iitg.ac.in. Click on the link of GATE Admit Card 2026 given on the home page. After this a new page will open, where candidates will have to fill their login details. After filling the details click on the SUBMIT button. Now your admit card will appear on the screen. Download it and keep a printed copy of it for future need.
