Amid anti-government protests in Iran, Donald Trump said on Tuesday (January 13, 2026) that America has stopped immediate military action against Iran for the time being. More than 600 people have died so far in the protests against Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Iran, while thousands of protesters have been arrested. Trump has repeatedly warned of attack on Iran, after which Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Iran is fully prepared for war.

Trump threatens Iran regarding military action

According to the report of news agency Associated Press, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt said, ‘The public statements coming out from the Iranian government are quite different from private messages. President Trump wants them to be investigated so that a solution to the situation can be found. He further said, ‘Despite this, the President has made it clear that he is not afraid to take military action if necessary and no one knows this better than Iran.’

America is adopting a tough stance towards Iran and the countries doing business with it. Donald Trump had announced on Monday (January 12, 2026) that countries that do business with Iran will be imposed an additional duty of 25 percent on doing business with America. “Effective immediately, any country doing business with the Islamic Republic of Iran will pay a 25 percent tariff on any and all trade with the United States,” Trump wrote on social media. This order is final and decisive.

Trump stopped military action for now

Donald Trump has made it clear that if force is used against the protesters, it will be a red line for Iran. According to the US President, Iran is continuously crossing the red line, due to which the White House and the national security team are considering tough options. Trump has indicated that his officials are currently talking with Iran and the army has been kept on standby mode. According to Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt, President Trump first wants to test how true Iran’s threats are.
