Armed Forces Ex-Servicemen Day is celebrated every year on 14 January across the country. This day is dedicated to honoring those brave ex-servicemen who served in the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force and protected the nation while wearing uniform. This date was chosen because on 14 January 1953, Field Marshal K. M. Cariappa had taken retirement. The contribution of Cariappa, the first Commander-in-Chief of independent India, in the 1947 war was historic. This day is being celebrated since 2017.

Actor Nana Patekar served in the Indian Army during the Kargil War of 1999 and received the status of Honorary Captain. In the world of acting too, Nana won people’s hearts with powerful roles in films like ‘Krantiveer’. He was praised for both his bravery and acting.
