Despite the ongoing violent demonstrations in Iran and open threats from US President Donald Trump regarding action against the protesters, Tehran does not seem to be bowing down. Iran has given a clear warning that if America launches a military attack, it will target American military bases located in neighboring countries where American troops are present. After this warning, as a precautionary measure, America and Britain have withdrawn some of their military and civilian personnel from Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, due to which the fear of war in the region has deepened.
Experts having knowledge of the military capabilities of Western countries say that recent developments indicate that America may attack Iran. Due to this fear, many countries including India, Poland and Italy have issued advisories to their citizens to leave Iran. According to Iranian officials, about 3,000 people have been killed so far, while human rights organizations claim that the death toll is around 2,600.
Trump’s open threats and diplomatic pressure
Donald Trump has been openly threatening to interfere in Iran for the past several days. He appealed to Iranians to continue protesting and occupy government institutions. Trump has canceled all meetings with Iranian officials. Along with this, he has warned that if Iran does not stop bloody action against the protesters, additional tariffs and sanctions will be imposed on it.
Next 24 hours decisive? fear of military action
Some European and Israeli officials claim that America may take military action within the next 24 hours. According to the New York Times report, America and Britain have started removing their personnel from Qatar’s air base. The Qatar government has said that this step has been taken in view of regional tension. The Pentagon says that if America launches a military attack on Iran, it will be of limited scale and it will be the second attack on Iran in recent months. Currently USS Gerald R. The Ford aircraft carrier, several escort warships and three missile-launching destroyers are already deployed in the area.
Iran’s warning
An Iranian official said that Tehran has appealed to Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Turkey to stop America from attacking Iran. The officer clearly said that if America targets Iran, then American military bases located in these countries will be attacked. He also said that direct contact between Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and US Special Envoy Steve Witcalf has been cut off. According to Iranian media, Security Council chief Ali Larijani spoke to Qatar’s foreign minister, while Araqchi has contacted his counterparts in the UAE and Turkey.
Letter to United Nations, blame on America
Iran has written a letter to the United Nations Security Council and the Secretary General, accusing America of inciting violence and interfering in internal affairs. Arakchi told the UAE Foreign Minister that Iran wants peace, but is fully committed to protecting its sovereignty and security. Meanwhile, Iran’s Chief Justice Gholamhossein Mohseni-Azai visited a prison in Tehran, where the protesters are being held. He said that it is necessary to punish those who beheaded or burnt people, so that such incidents do not happen again. According to America-based human rights organization HRANA, 18,137 arrests have been made so far.
