Action on vandalism in BDO office in North Dinajpur, West Bengal, FIR registered, fierce demonstration seen against SIR

An FIR has been registered on the incident of vandalism in the video office in North Dinajpur, West Bengal. Here, a fierce protest against SIR was seen in Chakulia of North Dinajpur district, adjacent to the Kishanganj border. During this, the protesters vandalized the Block Development Officer’s office. Along with this, traffic was disrupted by setting fire on the road.

Dissatisfaction seen due to verification being done in SIR

According to the information received, the local residents were angry over the repeated issuance of notices for the verification hearing of the special intensive amendment of the voter list. The protesters allege that they are being harassed by repeatedly calling them for hearing. It is known that the protesters vandalized the Block Development Officer office and set valuables on fire. A lot of damage has been caused to office documents and furniture.

Protestors clashed with police
The protesters also targeted other offices. There was also a scuffle with the police who reached the spot. According to the information received, Chakulia police station incharge and other police personnel have been injured in this incident of disturbance. The mob also vandalized police vehicles.

Police engaged in efforts to restore peace in the area

The protesters had blocked the road since morning by burning tyres. Efforts are being made by the police to restore peace and the police is on alert mode in the district. Several rounds of tear gas shells have been fired by the police. After the incident, heavy police force has been deployed in the area.

Assembly elections will be held in West Bengal this year
Actually, the next assembly elections in West Bengal are going to be held in 2026. Elections for the 294-member West Bengal Assembly are expected to be held here in March-April 2026. An official announcement has not been made yet. The tenure of the current assembly will end on 7 May 2026.
