Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind President Maulana Mahmood Madani has expressed deep concern over the frequent incidents of alleged mob lynching and murder against the Muslim minority community in Bihar in recent times. In this matter, he has written a detailed letter to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar demanding immediate, effective and decisive action against the culprits.
When hatred takes the form of violence then the state’s silence is fatal: Madani
In his letter, Maulana Madani has said that Bihar, the land of Mahatma Buddha, has been known for its bright tradition of social harmony, compassion and non-violence, but recent incidents have seriously hurt this historical identity of the state. He said that today the mentality of spreading hatred is being given free rein in the entire country, which includes the common anti-social elements as well as the public representatives in Parliament and Assembly. When hatred takes the form of violence, bloodshed and murder, then the silence of the state proves to be extremely fatal. In such a situation, as the Chief Minister, it is your constitutional and moral responsibility to ensure the safety of life and property of the citizens and to restore the shaken public confidence.
Madani mentioned many incidents in the letter
Maulana Madani has mentioned all the recent serious and worrying incidents in his letter. Maulana Madani said – the brutality done to Muslim cloth merchant Mohammad Athar Hussain in Nawada district and his subsequent death; The incident of Ahmed Azad being tied to an electric pole and beaten publicly on suspicion of possessing meat in Mathia village of Gopalganj; The case of Mohammed Murshid Alam being made a victim of kidnapping, physical torture and humiliation by calling him ‘Bangladeshi’ in Chakdaha colony of Madhubani district; Heart-wrenching incidents include the murder of Mohammad Qayyum following a minor dispute in Jhanjharpur and the kidnapping, alleged gang-rape and brutal murder of a widowed Muslim laborer, Hina Parveen, in Bhairavpatti village of Murliganj police station area in Madhepura district.
Expressing deep sorrow, pain and anger over the heinous crime that happened to Hina Parveen, Maulana Madani said that such a brutal murder of a helpless widow, the sole guardian of six innocent children, raises serious questions on both the sensitivity of our society and the efficiency of the administrative system.
Maulana Madani made this demand from Nitish Kumar
Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind has demanded that prompt, transparent and fair action be ensured against the persons involved in all these cases. Strict disciplinary measures should be taken against officials guilty of negligence and adequate compensation, justice and full rehabilitation should be provided to the victims’ families. Also, clear, concrete instructions should be issued to the police and district administration to stop the tendencies of mob justice (vigilantism), communal profiling and violation of law. Apart from this, Maulana Madani has appealed to all the local units of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind to come forward to help the affected families, especially the orphan children and other needy people.
