It is extremely cold in North India these days. Due to snowfall in the hilly areas, the cold has increased further in the plains. Talking about the capital, a blanket of dense fog was seen in Delhi and surrounding areas on Sunday (January 18), due to which visibility became zero. Many flights and rail services were also delayed due to severe cold across the region. Apart from this, air pollution also continues in the capital. The air quality index (AQI) reached 439 at 7 am today.
Flights and trains affected
Due to dense fog, many airlines including Air India and Indigo have issued advisories. Due to the delay, passengers have been asked to check the status of their flights. According to flight tracking website Flightradar24, many flights have been delayed due to fog at Indira Gandhi International Airport. Dozens of trains were affected due to dense fog. Several premium trains including Rajdhani, Duronto and Garib Rath Express were also affected.
Where is there a possibility of cold wave?
According to the Meteorological Department, due to western disturbance, there is a possibility of cold wave in some areas of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand in the next 1-2 days. Cold day conditions may prevail in some parts of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh for the next two days.
Changing weather in UP
The weather is fluctuating in Uttar Pradesh for the last three-four days. Many districts of the western regions, including the capital Lucknow, were seen wrapped in a blanket of dense fog on Saturday morning, but the weather became better after the sun came out by around 10:30. According to the Meteorological Department, dense fog is forecast in Lucknow and surrounding districts for the next two days.
Due to the effect of western disturbance, there may be sporadic rain in western Uttar Pradesh on 22 and 23 January. The effect of fog will start reducing in the central and eastern states from January 20. Senior meteorologist Atul Singh said that Barabanki was the coldest district on Saturday, the minimum temperature here reached 3.5 degrees. Hardoi stood second with a temperature of 3.6 degrees. The lowest minimum temperature of the season was recorded at 4.4 degrees in Lucknow.
According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of an increase of three-four degrees Celsius in the minimum temperature after the next 48 hours. In most of the districts, the weather will become better as the fog clears up as the day progresses, but the effect of melting will remain from evening till around 10 in the morning.
Bihar weather
The weather has softened in Bihar due to the strong sunlight, but it is getting cold in the morning and evening. According to IMD, there has been an increase in the maximum temperature, but there has not been any significant increase in the minimum temperature at night. There is a possibility of moderate fog in the lowland areas.
