Now a new twist has emerged in the India-Bangladesh dispute. Actually, Mustafizur Rahman’s IPL Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) after being dropped fromBCB) International Cricket Council (ICC) Had demanded to shift its matches of 2026 T20 World Cup out of India. Like Pakistan, BCB also wanted to play its World Cup matches in Sri Lanka, but instead of accepting this demand, ICC asked it to reconsider its demand. Now BCB understood that this demand will not be accepted so it has made a new move.

Bangladesh Cricket Board i.e. BCB has now demanded from ICC that its group in the T20 World Cup should be changed. BCB asked the ICC to include Ireland in Group B in the T20 World Cup to play in Sri Lanka instead of India.

Bangladesh is in Group C along with West Indies, Italy, England and Nepal and has to play league matches in Kolkata and Mumbai. Whereas Ireland is in Group B along with Sri Lanka, Australia, Oman and Zimbabwe, which has to play its matches in Colombo and Pallekele, Sri Lanka.

A two-member ICC team was in Dhaka to assure the BCB about the security arrangements in India. The team includes Gaurav Saxena, general manager of events and corporate communications, and Andrew Fgrave, general manager of the integrity unit.

BCB said in a statement after meeting ICC representatives, Bangladesh Cricket Board met representatives of the International Cricket Council regarding Bangladesh’s participation in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Fgrave was present in the meeting while Saxena attended the online meeting as he could not get the Bangladesh visa on time.

BCB said, During the talks, Bangladesh Cricket Board reiterated its request to ICC to hold its matches in Sri Lanka. The Board also conveyed the views of the Bangladesh Government and its concern regarding the safety of the Bangladeshi team, media, fans and other stakeholders.

However, it is understood that the ICC will not accept Bangladesh’s demand as it has many practical problems and the entire tournament schedule will have to be drastically changed.
