They should worry about their people and pay attention to the deteriorating budget.
Macron’s NATO drill statement comes as US President Donald Trump is expected to use the World Economic Forum on Wednesday to step up his efforts to annex Greenland despite European opposition.
On Tuesday in Davos, Macron had said that Europe will not bow down to threats nor will it be afraid. This was a strong criticism of Trump’s threat that he would impose heavy tariffs if Europe did not allow him to take over Greenland. Macron called the tariffs ‘stupid’ and ‘unnecessary aggression’. He also refused to accept Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’ as an alternative to the United Nations.
NATO leaders in Davos have warned that Trump’s strategy regarding Greenland could put the alliance in danger. On Tuesday, Trump shared a screenshot of a text message sent by French President Emmanuel Macron and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, in which the two leaders praised his peacekeeping efforts.
