After addressing the World Economic Forum in Davos, US President Donald Trump has given a big statement regarding the trade deal with India. Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said that America will make a ‘great’ trade deal with India. He said, ‘I have great respect for your Prime Minister. He is a wonderful person and my friend. We are going to make a good deal.
No final decision taken on trade deal
This statement of Trump has come at a time when America has imposed 50 percent tariff on India, which is one of the highest tariffs in the world. Although both the countries have reiterated that talks on the trade deal are ongoing, but no final decision has been taken yet regarding the deal.
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore took charge earlier this month and expressed confidence in India-US relations. Regarding the ongoing trade talks between the two countries, he said that both the countries are fully committed to reaching an agreement. On relations between Trump and PM Modi, Sergio Gore had said that the US President can visit India in the next one or two years.
Trade with India important for our relations: Sergio Gore
Sergio Gore had said, ‘India is the largest country in the world, so finalizing this agreement is not an easy task. Trade with India is very important for our relations. We will also continue to work together in other important areas like security, anti-terrorism operations, energy, technology, education and health.
Earlier this month, US Commerce Secretary Howard Latnick had claimed that the India-US trade deal did not happen because PM Modi had not called Trump. However, the Indian Foreign Ministry rejected his statement and said that PM Modi and Donald Trump had spoken on phone 8 times in 2025.
