Abhishek Sharma played an important role in India’s 48-run win against New Zealand by playing a stormy innings of 84 runs in 35 balls with 8 sixes and 5 fours. He was chosen ‘Player of the Match’ for his stormy batting.
After winning the match, Abhishek Sharma said, “From day one we had a plan and we are following it. I have understood that if you have to hit every ball or play at a strike rate of 200, then it is important to play with intention. Every team makes a plan against me. So it depends on my preparation. I will trust my instincts.”
He said, “I don’t think my role is too risky, but I wouldn’t call it my comfort zone either. I have practiced a lot of playing big shots in the first six overs. I never do range-hitting. I have to see the ball and adapt to the conditions. That’s how I plan in my net sessions. If you watch videos of my batting, you get an idea of where the bowler is going to bowl against you.”
On the other hand, in this match Rinku Singh scored unbeaten 44 runs in 20 balls with 3 sixes and 4 fours. Regarding his brilliant innings, Rinku Singh said, “There was pressure on me because I was going in and out of the team. The plan was that we would take singles and then play big shots. Along with this, we had to stay till the end. I did the same. Gautam Gambhir sir told me to maintain the determination. We want to take this confidence and momentum forward in the World Cup and win it.”
Regarding the unbroken partnership of 29 runs in 13 balls with Arshdeep Singh, Rinku Singh said, “I was batting with Arshdeep and the plan was to hit boundaries when the balls were in our range. I just told him to stay calm and take singles and give me the strike.”
