Bhilwara’s biggest Mahatma Gandhi Hospital (hospital), which gives new life to patients, has now come under serious questions. Within the last 6 days, 5 women (pregnant women) have died consecutively in the hospital. The biggest and shocking revelation among these deaths is that dangerous bacteria have been found positive in the sampling report of the operation theater (OT) of the hospital. After this revelation, there has been a stir in the health department and hospital administration.
After the detection of dangerous bacteria in the operation theatre, big questions are being raised on the infection control system and cleanliness of the hospital administration. The biggest question is whether the negligence taken by the health department in sterilization and disinfection proved fatal for these mothers? However, the administration says that whether there is any direct connection between the deaths of the mothers and the bacteria found in the OT, a thorough investigation is being done.

Special committee formed for investigation
Superintendent of Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, Dr. Arun Gaur, while clarifying the situation, said that sampling in operation theater and ICU is a part of the regular procedure. Recently, a special committee has been formed to investigate the cases of maternal deaths. Experts of Microbiology Department, Head of Surgery Department, Head of Gynecology Department and HOD of Anesthesia Department have been included in this committee. This team will find out the real causes of deaths.
Operation theater is closed for three days
Hospital Superintendent Dr. Gaur said that under the guidelines of the Infection Control Committee, continuous disinfection and sterilization is done in the hospital. He said, “The use of the operation theater whose sample did not meet the standards (failed) has been stopped with immediate effect and has remained closed for the last three days.” At present, sterilization and fumigation of OT is being done. No operation will be conducted in that OT until the new sample report comes negative.
