Just before the T20 World Cup 2026, the New Zealand cricket team has suffered a major setback. Right arm fast bowler Adam Milne has been ruled out of the World Cup due to injury. In his place, New Zealand Cricket has included Kyle Jamieson in the World Cup squad.
Adam Milne was injured while bowling during the South Africa 20 League on Sunday. He has an injury in his left hamstring. This injury has shattered his dream of playing the World Cup.
New Zealand head coach Rob Walter said, “We are all sad for Adam. He had worked very hard to prepare himself for the tournament and was at his best for the Eastern Cape Sunrisers. This is a bad time for Adam and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
Rob Walter praised Kyle Jamieson, who replaced Milne in the team, saying that he was a worthy replacement.
Walter said, “He is a hard-working player who has good skills and experience, which makes him useful for the tournament. It is great that Kyle is already with us in India. He is an essential member of our pace-bowling group and has performed tremendously on this tour.”
Jamieson, who is currently part of India’s white-ball tour, has been included in the T20 World Cup squad. Earlier he was selected as a reserve player in the World Cup team.
31 year old right arm fast bowler Kyle Jamieson has played 24 T20 matches for New Zealand in which he has taken 23 wickets.
New Zealand has been placed in Group D in the World Cup. Apart from New Zealand, this group includes South Africa, Afghanistan, UAE and Canada. This group has become a difficult group because of South Africa and Afghanistan. New Zealand will start its campaign on 8 February with a match against Afghanistan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
