Amazon Layoff: Amazon is in the mood for layoffs again. It is being claimed in the reports that the company can fire around 16000 people. This is part of the restructuring drive of the company started a few months ago, under which there is a plan to lay off 30,000 employees.
In its initial phase, about 14,000 people were laid off, but now reports are coming that the next wave of layoffs may start from next Tuesday. About 16,000 more employees may be affected by this upcoming round of layoffs in Amazon.
Impact will be visible on India also
If layoffs indeed happen, it will be the biggest layoff in the company’s history, surpassing the 27,000 laid off by Amazon itself in 2023. What’s more, the earlier layoffs were mostly US-based, but this time its impact is expected to be visible on many teams working in India as well. It is being told that layoffs will take place in many big divisions like Prime Video and AWS.
Second round starting from Tuesday!
According to a Reuters report quoting people associated with the matter, Amazon is planning to begin its second major round of corporate job cuts on Tuesday, January 27. The company had already eliminated around 14,000 white-collar positions in October last year and it is expected that this next wave will also be of similar scale.
Although Amazon has not officially confirmed the exact date, ongoing discussions on social media platforms like Reddit, Linkedin posts and Blind suggest that notifications regarding layoffs may start coming in the beginning of the week. Some employees have also claimed that those who are already on the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) can be informed before others.
Danger alarm on these
It is being told that this time the teams of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Retail Operations, Prime Video and People Experience and Technology (PXT) division, which is the internal HR wing of Amazon, may be affected. Overall, layoffs will mostly focus on higher-paying corporate jobs rather than warehouse or delivery staff.
