‘Never violated the party line’, says Shashi Tharoor amid anger with Congress high command, said this on Operation Sindoor

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said on Saturday that he never violated the party’s declared stand in Parliament. The Thiruvananthapuram MP said his only public disagreement on principle was regarding ‘Operation Sindoor’. Tharoor, while answering questions during a session at the Kerala Literature Festival, said that he had taken a strong stance on the issue and he had ‘no regrets’ about it.

This statement of Shashi Tharoor has come amidst these recent reports in which it has been said that ‘Tharoor has differences with the party leadership’. There is speculation that Tharoor is ‘hurt’ that Rahul Gandhi did not mention his name despite his presence on the stage during a recent event in Kochi and that state leaders are repeatedly trying to ‘sideline’ him.

What did Shashi Tharoor say about Pahalgam attack?

Clarifying his point, the Congress MP said that as an observer and writer, he had written a column in a newspaper after the Pahalgam incident in which he had said that it should be punished and concrete action should be taken. He said that as India is focusing on development, it should not get into a prolonged confrontation with Pakistan and any action should be limited to targeting terrorist camps.

Shashi Tharoor mentioned Nehru

The Congress MP said he was surprised that the Indian government did exactly what he said. Tharoor said that the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had asked the question, ‘Who will survive if India dies?’

He said, ‘When India is at stake, when India’s security and its place in the world are at stake, India comes first.’
