US President Donald Trump has currently stopped the proposed tariffs related to Europe, but his interest in Greenland remains constant. In this series, the White House on Saturday shared a picture prepared by AI, in which 79-year-old Trump is seen walking towards Greenland with a penguin. It was written with this picture, Embrace the penguin. This post has once again intensified the international debate on America’s intentions regarding Greenland.

Donald Trump has been saying publicly for the past several months that Greenland is very important for America’s national security. Earlier, he had warned Denmark that if no agreement was reached regarding Greenland, then America could also consider military options. Greenland is currently a semi-autonomous territory under the administration of Denmark. After Trump’s statement, Denmark and many of its European allies increased their military presence in Greenland, which further deepened the tension in relations between America and Europe.

Tariff crisis related to Greenland dispute

The situation worsened when Trump, directly linking the Greenland dispute, announced the imposition of a 10 percent tariff on seven EU countries and the United Kingdom. However, these tariffs were later withdrawn. Trump took this decision after a meeting with NATO chief Mark Rutte during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Trump claimed that soon a framework will be brought forward regarding Greenland, which will benefit both America and Europe.

AI photo messaging strategy

Trump has already shared pictures made from AI regarding Greenland. Recently he posted another AI image, in which Greenland was shown as a part of America. JD Vance and Marco Rubio were also seen in this picture and Trump was seen planting the American flag. Apart from this, Trump shared another AI image on Truth Social, which showed an expanded map of America, in which Greenland, Canada and Venezuela were also included. It was told that this photo was made by digitally altering the original photo of the meeting held with European leaders in August 2025.

Claim of not paying anything in return for Greenland

Trump recently said that America will not have to pay any price for Greenland. When asked what he was willing to pay for this semi-autonomous region, he said that the US would just build the Golden Dome missile defense system and that would be enough. According to Trump, this agreement will give America full access to Greenland, especially for military purposes. He said clearly, ‘We will get everything we want without any cost.’

Concern increased in Europe, instability among investors

There is an atmosphere of concern in Europe due to Trump’s continuous statements and threats of tariffs. Last weekend, Trump threatened to impose 10 percent tariffs on eight European countries, causing instability in global markets. He also raised the Greenland issue strongly during an hour-long speech in Davos and later met the NATO chief and talked about a new agreement, although its details have not yet been made public.
