The dispute between ICC and Bangladesh regarding T20 World Cup 2026 has now become a big issue in international cricket. Sri Lanka Cricket Secretary Bandula Dissanayake said that his country does not want to get involved in any kind of political controversy. He clearly said that India, Pakistan and Bangladesh – all three are friendly countries of Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka will not support any one side. He said that despite being a co-host, Sri Lanka would remain impartial in this matter.
Full focus on the tournament
The Sports Ministry of Sri Lanka has also made it clear that their first priority is the successful organization of T20 World Cup 2026. Special attention is being kept on security and arrangements especially regarding India-Pakistan matches. It is noteworthy that considering the current situation, Pakistan will play all its matches in Sri Lanka, which also includes the match against India.
Where did the controversy start?
Bangladesh Cricket Board had raised objection regarding its matches being played in India in T20 World Cup 2026. After this a period of controversies started. The team had to play matches in Kolkata and Mumbai in the initial phase. Citing security, Bangladesh had demanded from ICC that all its matches should be held in Sri Lanka.
The ICC definitely considered this demand, but in the end it clearly refused. The board gave Bangladesh 24 hours to give its final decision on playing in the tournament. Bangladesh did not give any reply till the stipulated time. After this, ICC took a big step and excluded Bangladesh from the tournament and included Scotland in its place.
Pakistan also looked angry
After Bangladesh’s exclusion, Pakistan also expressed displeasure over this decision. The Pakistan Cricket Board openly supported Bangladesh and even hinted that Pakistan could also boycott the World Cup or boycott the match against India. Because of this the matter became more heated.
When will T20 World Cup start?
