A scary case of how dangerous it can be to blindly trust the Internet and Artificial Intelligence has come to light from Delhi. Here, instead of consulting a doctor, a 45-year-old man took medicines to prevent HIV by asking AI. As a result, he developed a rare but fatal disease, Stevens Johnson Syndrome, and his condition remains critical. In such a situation, let us now tell you how dangerous Stevens Johnson Syndrome is.
Afraid of HIV, took advice from AI instead of doctors
According to the report, the man feared HIV infection after having unprotected sex. Usually, in such cases, doctors give post-exposure prophylaxis medicines, which are taken within 72 hours of contact and under complete medical supervision. However, instead of contacting a doctor, this person took information from AI and bought medicines without a prescription from a local medical store. According to doctors, the patient took the full 28-day course of HIV medicines. After about 7 days, rashes started appearing on his body. Despite this he did not stop the medicines. Within a few days, dangerous problems started developing in his eyes and other parts of his body. When his condition worsened he was admitted to the hospital.
Stevens Jones Syndrome revealed in investigation
After examination, doctors confirmed that the patient was suffering from Stevens Johnson Syndrome. This is a serious drug reaction. In which there is severe damage to the skin and mucosa. The patient has been kept in ICU and doctors are describing his condition as serious. According to doctors, at present the priority is to control the reaction to the medicine. At the same time, the doctor is also surprised as to how the patient got such medicines without a doctor’s prescription, whereas now even doctors do not usually prescribe these medicines. This case not only raises questions on the open sale of medicines, but also highlights the danger of using AI and internet for treatment without expert advice.
What and how dangerous is Stevens Jones Syndrome?
Stevens Johnson Syndrome is a rare but fatal condition that causes rashes, blisters and peeling of the skin. The mucosa of eyes, mouth and private parts is also affected. In most of the cases, it occurs due to severe allergic reaction to medicines and if timely treatment is not received, the risk of death increases. Some people consider Stevens Johnson syndrome and TEN to be separate diseases, while others consider them to be the same disease, but Stevens Johnson syndrome is less severe than TEN. It can be understood in this way that in Stevens Johnson Syndrome, peeling of the skin can affect less than 10 percent of the entire body, whereas in TEN, peeling of the skin affects more than 30 percent of the body. However, both situations can be fatal.
