Most runs in T20 World Cup: Whenever there is talk of batsmen who have scored the most runs in the history of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, some names automatically come into the center of discussion. This tournament was started in the year 2007. If we look at the statistics from then till now, there are some names who have proved their batting prowess by scoring the most runs on this big stage.
Virat Kohli – India
The name at the top of this list is Virat Kohli. Kohli has scored a total of 1292 runs in the T20 World Cup between 2012 and 2024. He played 33 innings in 35 matches and remained unbeaten 11 times. With an impressive average of 58.72 and strike rate of 128.81, Kohli has scored 15 half-centuries on this platform. Even though he does not have a century to his name, his innings in big matches have proved to be match winners for India many times.
Rohit Sharma – India
Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma is in second place. Rohit played 47 matches in the T20 World Cup from 2007 to 2024 and scored 1220 runs. His highest score has been 92 runs. With 12 half-centuries and 50 sixes, Rohit is counted among India’s most aggressive batsmen in this format. His strike rate was more than 133, which shows his aggressive thinking.
Mahela Jayawardene – Sri Lanka
Former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene is at third place in this list. He scored 1016 runs in 31 matches and also scored a century. With an average of over 39 and a strike rate of 134, Jayawardene led Sri Lanka to many memorable victories. His calm nature and technical strength were clearly visible in T20 cricket also.
Jos Buttler – England
England’s Jos Buttler is in fourth place. Butler has scored 1013 runs in 35 matches. His strike rate is more than 147, which shows how fast he scores runs. Buttler has one century and five half-centuries to his name, and has pulled England out of trouble on several occasions.
David Warner – Australia
David Warner of Australia is at number five. Warner has scored 984 runs in 41 matches. With 8 half-centuries, 40 sixes and more than 100 fours, Warner has been the backbone of Australia’s T20 batting for a long time.
