Gaurav Gogoi retaliated on Himanta Biswa Sarma’s statement of ‘Pakistani agent’, said- If I was forced…

Politics is at its peak in Assam before the assembly elections to be held this year. Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi has hit back at the allegations of Pakistan connection made by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Gaurav Gogoi suppressed the SIT report on the Chief Minister and dragged his minor children into political controversy. Assam CM has raised questions on Gaurav Gogoi’s 2013 visit to Pakistan and raised questions on his visa permission.

Assam CM targets Gaurav Gogoi

Himanta Biswa Sarma said, ‘Gaurav Gogoi made such a revelation, about which even I did not know earlier, that Taxila is not in Islamabad, but in Rawalpindi district of Punjab. Gaurav Gogoi’s Pakistan visa allowed him to visit only Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad. In such a situation, the question arises that how did he go to Takshashila, which is directly in Rawalpindi district and is outside Islamabad Capital Territory.

He also emphasized that the General Headquarters (GHQ) of Pakistan Army is also located in Rawalpindi. He said, ‘Rawalpindi is a high-security district and common citizens cannot go there without special permission. In such a situation, this visit could have been possible only through some institutional arrangement. Calling it an issue of national security, Assam CM said that the person who helped Gaurav Gogoi should be identified.

Crossed all limits of political etiquette: Gaurav Gogoi

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Gaurav Gogoi termed the statement of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma as unacceptable and crossing all limits of political etiquette. He said, ‘The SIT report which the Assam CM had cited was suppressed for 6 months because the government had failed to prove that he had any connection with Pakistan.’

Gogoi asked, ‘If it was really a matter of national security then why did he (Himanta Biswa Sarma) sit for six months?’ He said, the truth is that there is nothing in the SIT report to prove his allegations. All this is being done due to the increasing popularity of Congress in Assam. Only when we revealed that his family owned 12,000 bighas of land, he created this drama.

Claim of links with Pakistan rejected

Himanta Biswa Sarma has alleged that there is a deep relationship between Gaurav Gogoi, his wife Elizabeth Colburn and Pakistani citizen Ali Tauqeer Sheikh. He has claimed that sensitive information might have been sent to Pakistan. He also suggested that Gogoi had made a secret visit to Pakistan in 2013 and possibly received training there. Gogoi rejected these allegations outright. He said, ‘My wife had gone to Pakistan for work. I went with him on a 10-day trip in 2013. There was nothing secret or illegal in it.

Gaurav Gogoi’s warning to Assam CM

Gaurav Gogoi said that political battles should be fought strictly between leaders and children should never be involved in it. He expressed grief over the comments made about his five-year-old and nine-year-old children and said that such things have no place in public discussion. He warned that if such actions continue then he will take the issue to the end. Gaurav Gogoi warned CM Sarma not to pursue personal matters further. He said that the Chief Minister has crossed the limits of disclosing information related to his children.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi alleged that misinformation was being spread deliberately. He said, ‘This issue is so serious that it deserves the attention of the Supreme Court and suggested that the apex court should take suo motu cognizance of the matter. Gogoi gave a stern warning saying do not force me into a situation where I have to answer.
