What punishment will ICC give to Bangladesh for refusing to play in India, big decision has come

The ICC on Monday said it will not impose any penalty on the Bangladesh Cricket Board for refusing to play T20 World Cup matches in India. ICC said that this decision was taken after talks with BCB and Pakistan Cricket Board. Pakistan had refused to play the World Cup match against India on 15 February in solidarity with Bangladesh.

The ICC said in a statement, “It has been agreed that no financial, sporting or administrative penalty will be imposed on the Bangladesh Cricket Board in relation to the current issue.”

It said, “BCB has the right to approach the dispute resolution committee.” This right remains intact under the current ICC rules.

The ICC said its ‘approach is based on the principles of fairness and equality and reflects a shared objective of helping rather than punishing’.

Bangladesh had refused to play the World Cup in India citing security reasons, in its place Scotland is playing. The ICC also said that Bangladesh will be given the opportunity to host an ICC tournament between 2028 and 2031.

“An agreement has been reached with the understanding that Bangladesh will host an ICC tournament prior to the ICC Men’s World Cup 2031, subject to ICC’s normal hosting process, timelines and operational requirements,” the ICC said.

The ICC said the move “reflects confidence in Bangladesh’s ability as host and also reflects the ICC’s commitment to providing meaningful hosting opportunities to its members to further the development of cricket in the country.”

ICC Chief Executive Sanjog Gupta said, “Bangladesh’s absence from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is regrettable but it does not change the ICC’s enduring commitment to Bangladesh as a premier cricket nation.”

He said, “We remain focused on working with all our stakeholders, including the BCB, to ensure the integrated development of the game in the country and provide opportunities to its players in the future.”
