Final voter list released after SIR in Assam, know how many voters’ names are missing from the list?

The final voter list in Assam was published after special revision. It contains names of 2.49 crore voters, which is 0.97 percent less than the draft voter list. According to the Chief Electoral Officer of Assam, the total number of voters in the draft voter list was 2.52 crore, which has now reduced to 2.49 crore in the final voter list. According to reports, there are 1.24 crore male voters, 1.24 crore female voters and 343 third gender voters in the final voter list.

Verification was done in more than 61 lakh houses

Joint CEO of Election Commission has said that the final voter list has been released in Assam. 2.43 lakh names have been removed from the draft list of voters of Assam. Under SIR, verification was done by visiting more than 61 lakh houses in Assam. Thousands of election officers, booth level officers and supervisors were involved in this. Besides, political parties had deployed 61,533 booth level agents for surveillance. After this process, 31,486 polling stations were decided in the state.

SIR will be done extensively after the elections

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that after the assembly elections, a comprehensive security review (SIR) will be conducted in Assam. The Election Commission has reviewed Assam’s preparedness for the upcoming assembly elections to be held in March or April and held a two-day meeting to assess district level preparedness, security arrangements and coordination with enforcement agencies.

SIR happened 6 months before the elections

Special revision was done in Assam between 22 November and 20 December. In this, names of 10,56,291 people have been removed from the voter list. The Election Commission had conducted the voter list verification process in Assam under the name Special Revision. According to the draft roll released earlier, there were a total of 2,51,09,754 voters in Assam. More than 93,021 thousand D-voters i.e. doubtful voters are not included in these. Names of 10.56 lakh people were removed from the voter list due to death, shifting to a new place or duplicate entries.

D-Voters are those people whose citizenship is doubted by the government. Such people are not allowed to vote. They are sent to a special tribunal under the Foreigners Act, 1946 and they are not even given voter cards. The information of these D-voters has been added separately to the draft voter list.
