BJP candidate committed suicide before the elections

BJP candidate from Ward No. 6 of Maktal Municipality of Narayanpet district, Yerukaala Mahadevappa, had committed suicide before the elections, due to which voting was canceled there. However, in the remaining 16 wards, Congress has won the hearts of the people by winning 12 seats. At the same time, the victory of All India Forward Bloc in Vadepalli of Mahabubnagar has made this election more interesting. Congress has had a clean sweep in big corporations like Mancherial, Ramagundam and Nalgonda.
Impact of Congress policies visible in local elections
This was the first major local election after the assembly elections in Telangana, which was being considered as a litmus test for the Revanth Reddy government. BRS was dominant in the state for the last few years, but rebellion in the party and the policies of the leadership have weakened them. Congress has won the trust of voters by entering the fray with promises of Praja Palan (people’s rule) and welfare schemes. Due to the situation of hunger in 38 municipalities, the politics of manipulation is also going to intensify.

This victory has further strengthened the hold of Congress in Telangana. On Monday (February 16, 2026), new councilors and corporators will take oath of office, after which the election phase for mayor and chairman will begin.
